When COVID lockdowns closed his dental school clinic in 2021, Dr. Akhil Chawla watched his patients struggle to get care while other clinics remained open. He realized the system was fundamentally broken - patients couldn't follow the providers they trusted, and were kept in the dark about their own health and costs. Meanwhile, providers were trapped in rigid systems without the freedom to practice where and how they wanted.

Shair was born out of a desire to put providers and patients in control: providers gain the flexibility to practice independently while patients choose their dentist, book appointments instantly, see transparent pricing, and understand their health records.
